FEB 3; 8 PM: OCCUPY THE CONVERSATION
The Occupy movement has been a gamechanger in the national dialog, introducing the issue of income disparity, for example. A young friend active in the movement told me he didn’t plan to vote this year. I decided to hold this meeting because I think the young who elected Obama don’t appreciate the amazing difference between this president and any Republican, and I want to speak my piece and hear what others are thinking. How can we decide on right action if we can’t agree on what reality is?

SWAMIJI BHIMA SEN
THURSDAY DEC 1 AT 8PM

OM FELLOW SEEKERS!

SWAMIJI BHIMA SEN will give a one more program at the Mothership before departing our area for points west. He will speak on his philosophy and experiences over many years with great spiritual masters. He will also be taking questions from the audience.

Swamiji has fallen in love with Woodstock and refers to it as the Rishikesh of the US. Rishikesh is the holy city at the foot of the Himalayas, where the Ganges emerges. As a pilgrimage point, Rishikesh greets many devout Hindus and wandering sadhus (holy men).

Like Rishikesh, Woodstock has a higher density of ashrams, monasteries, and spiritual centers than anywhere else I can think of in the US.

Let’s come together to enjoy the blessing of Swamiji’s wisdom before he leaves for the winter.

HARI OM!

BIG FUN!

Swamiji Bhima Sen, disciple of Sivananda and a delightful visiting Indian 70-something will grace the Mothership this coming Friday night, September 30 at 8 pm, with stories of his powerful experiences with Sivananda and Neem Karoli Baba. He will speak of his experiences with one of them and then with the other. After each he will allow a short period for questions and answers.

Meet and Greet at the Old Mother’s Hip

There was a lovely gathering of folks, notably Calvin Pompana, a Dakota man from Winnipeg who is a Sundance Chief. He is in town doing sacred ceremony. I am so grateful for that beautiful inipi (sweat lodge) on Tuesday night at Bella’s in the remnants of Lee, a week after Irene. The rain was pretty constant and the beauty of the people working together to build a fire, protect it with a tarp, and then there was this one stone which was so beautiful glowing red. That was the moment I realized I had forgotten about the rain, floods and the idea that Mother Earth is angry with me. Calvin is a very gentle and compassionate soul who has only one round left of a sixteen year commitment to host a sundance every year since 2000. There is a great deal of intentional suffering in the Sundance and they say the purpose of dancing is “So the people may live.” He talked about the Unity Ride, which has been going on for quite a few years, to commemorate the 38 Santee (Dakota) Sioux that were hanged in 1862 in the largest mass execution in American History. 10 Native riders will be in Woodstock on October 29 with 7 wild horses. They will be enroute to the UN. Watch for updates.

PROJECT INC. REVISITED

FIRST WEEK IN APRIL AT CHURNER AND CHURNER

Many years ago Paul McMahon noticed that well over 90% of the people who see an art gallery exhibition see it at the opening. He found a  way to put on one night shows of many of his favorite artists and friends at Project Inc. in Cambridge from 1972-75. He was interested in Conceptual and Performance Art and there was little awareness of it in Cambridge at the time. As a result artists such as Laurie Anderson, Dan Graham and Sol Lewitt, who today are world renowned showed their work to audiences of as few as three people. Recently the archives of the series, which numbered over 30 shows, were acquired for Bard College’s Center for Curatorial Studies by Ann Butler. Project Inc. was recently brought to the attention of a wider public in Douglas Eklund’s catalog of the PICTURES GENERATION 1974-1984 at the Metropolitan Museum in 2009. McMahon will present Project Inc. Revisited, a fortieth anniversary show, at Churner and Churner April 3-8, 2012. Many of the 37 artists who showed at Project Inc. will participate.

WORLD PEACE MEDITATION

The 7th of every month people meet in chambers like the one in Wittenberg, light a fire and chant, pray for world peace and for healing and purification of the ocean of awareness. Our friendly neighborhood chamber is in need of repair and in the meantime meditations are being held in the backyard of the Mothership, 6 Hillcrest Ave. Just so you know, there is another chamber near Albany called the House of Mica, which is active on the 7th and has other ceremonies and programs. Dozens of chambers have been built worldwide pursuant to a vision of Joseph ‘Beautiful Painted Arrow’ Rael.

BEGINNER’S MINED

SATURDAY JULY 23 6-8 PM

and closing Thursday July 28 at 6 pm:

a group show of Utes of all Ages and AGendras

In the late 90s a curious phenomenon occurred in Woodstock. Suddenly everyone who was a few years either way of 20 decided they were poets. A similar moment seems to be occurring now, only this time many of the younger set in town have decided they are artists, perhaps inspired by the explosive energy of Christina Varga’s outsider gallery. Jason Cavallo’s Beginners Mind gallery has showcased many of these young artists and McMahon pays tribute to that in his show title. These instant artists and anyone else* is invited to participate in an instant art show a la his Project Inc. series. He is inviting people to bring an artwork and hang it in the Mothership after 4 PM, on the date of the show. The show will open to the public at 6 and close at 8, at which point everyone will de-install their work and take it home. If you sell your work there is a suggested commission of 25%.

There are ways for those who would like to participate but who will not be able to be present to ‘send’ work.

SWAMI BEYONDANANDA WAS FABULICIOUS!

TUESDAY JUNE 14TH

Cosmic Comic Swami Beyondananda Brings His Evolutionary Up-Wising to Your Town.

As anyone who follows the news can attest, we are living in serious times. The antidote? Serious laughter. Take it from the Swami himself: “The best way to overcome gravity is with levity.”

If you love to laugh — or, if you need to — don’t miss the opportunity to get struck by enlightening and laugh till the
sacred cows come home.

Accompanying the Swami was an instant art show -one night only -of paintings by local outsider artist Sam Friedland

collection of Ira and Sophia Schepetin

TOM DAVIS

Tom Davis (of Franken and Davis) had his first art opening at the Mothership in Woodstock Saturday April 23. The sculpture, JESUS WEEPING INTO THE TACONIC WHILE THE DEVIL WATCHES NEARBY, is Davis’ first and only so far. It was 16 years in the making, constructed entirely of objects found in and beside the Taconic Creek that runs through his property in upstate New York.
